This is a memory shared by Rodney's daughter Christina: In 1963 while out to sea in the Atlantic Ocean, Dad received a highly confidential message over the wire he was to relay to Scotland Yard. As the letters were coming in and he was tapping the message via Morse code, he started to realize the urgency and importance of the message as his hands were shaking with every letter he transmitted, worried he would get the message wrong.
He was relaying the message to Scotland Yard that JFK was assassinated..
Dad was convinced he was the first person across the ocean who knew, and you could tell in the way he told this story to me how proud he was that early in his military career, he served his country by relaying such tragic news to our allies with such care and composure.
