Obituary for Elizabeth Ann Schlesselman

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Schlesselman, age 91, of Ball, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 6, 2020 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory, Ball, Louisiana.

Elizabeth Ann Schlesselman “Lib”, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at home with family on July 6, 2020. She was born March 15,1929 in Garvin, Oklahoma to Flora and Robert Barnes. She grew up in the Idabel area with her five sisters, Cleo, Jean, Barbara, Billie, and Patsy. She graduated from Grey High School and went on to become a licensed cosmetologist. Elizabeth met Willard Arthur Schlesselman in Fort Lewis, Washington and they were married April 30, 1949. They had three loving children, Steven, Lisa, and Stacy.

Elizabeth supported her husband throughout his military and U.S. Forest Service careers, traveling to different countries with their growing family, and various states before retiring in Lufkin, Texas. She worked early in her career as a cosmetologist, and later with the Texas State Health Department in administration. She was a founding member of the Republican Women’s League in Lufkin, Texas, an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Lufkin, as well as an officer in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Elizabeth above all was a faithful and devout Christian wife and mother. She enjoyed hobbies including refurbishing furniture, antiquing, and sewing. She treasured authentic hospitality and took pride in passing along these traditions to her grandchildren. She enjoyed her family to the fullest and had a keen way of making everyone feel uniquely loved.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Flora Barnes, her loving husband, Willard Arthur Schlesselman, and her sisters Jean Barnes, Barbara Fuller, Cleo Moore, and Billie Douthit. She is survived by her sister Patsy Graves and husband Bobby, brother-in-law Bill Fuller; son Steven Schlesselman and wife Quanah, her daughters Lisa Nugent and husband Ronald, Stacy Dominy and husband Brad; grandchildren Dylan Nugent and wife Lindsey, Justine Mullen, Jude Schlesselman, Anne Schlesselman Buthion, and husband Alain, John Schlesselman and wife Jenna, Kydie Dillon, and husband Ryan, Ty Marmon, Bradli Gehrt and husband Tyler, Taylor McAnally and husband Jacob; great grandchildren Corbin, Tristan, and Ella Nugent, Sophie and Audrey Buthion, and Blake Dillon, as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. She will be laid to rest with her family in Idabel, Oklahoma in a private ceremony at a later date.
